The RBKC Prevent team is committed to increasing the quantity and quality of engagement with vulnerable young people to reduce their vulnerability to potential radicalisation.
Previously, the local authority Prevent team partnered with organisations to engage with young people. However, in the 2018/19 financial year the team developed its own Youth Engagement Project (YEP). YEP continues and expand upon the work undertaken by previous providers, while providing the Prevent team with greater oversight and input.
The project delivery is made up of three main components:
- Softer engagement with local youths, groups and services
- Workshops and events that explore issues that will make young people more resilient to radicalisation
- Direct one-to-one or small group safeguarding work with individuals that are deemed particularly susceptible to radicalisation or where there are reasons for concern
Two well-known local community organisations, who have worked closely with the Prevent team for many years, deliver the project, which is coordinated by the Prevent team. This ensures that the workshops and sessions seek to reduce radicalisation risks and reflect local concerns.
